Embark on a journey to unlock the secrets of Fire by Friction in our fully immersive bushcraft fire lighting course. Engage in practical demonstrations and hands-on learning to ignite your passion for this traditional survival skill.
Travel back in time, and master one of the most essential skills of your forebears. We will take you on a fire lighting journey, sparking your interest, and teaching you how to master the art of fire lighting in different ways.
Master modern techniques with modern tinders, before a lesson on the natural tinders that can be found all around us in our 1500 acre woodland.
You will be catching a spark that you have created using a traditional flint and steel, exploring scientific fire lighting methods, and learn how to prepare a single log into pieces that you can then turn into fire.
Come and join us to light your fire with possibly the hardest and most advanced methods of fire lighting - the infamous Bow Drill.
In our relaxed and comfortable roundhouse training centre, our instructors will be around for you to pick their brains for their years of knowledge.
Why not extend your fire lighting course by staying the night and continuing the following day?*
As the first day comes to an end, you will prepare your own char cloth in the fire so it is ready for you to use throughout day 2.
Walk with us through the woodland, and gather the materials that you will need to make your very own bow and drill. We will teach you how to prepare the materials that you have gathered, so that you can create an ember and try to blow this into a flame.
The second day will give you the opportunity to tap into the instructors' knowledge even more, and you'll really be able to drill in the knowledge learned.
Choose an overnight stay that is either self catered or fully catered by us. If you want to feed yourself then you are welcome to. We will have some basic cooking equipment available for you to use if you need it. If you want us to provide catering, then that's exactly what we will do. We will provide an evening meal and breakfast for you on Sunday morning.
*If you are extending your course, then you would need to bring your own camping equipment . We do have some limited kit to lend out, so if you would like to borrow any (we don't lend out sleeping bags) then please get in touch after booking. Kit is lent out on a first come first served basis and as long as it is available.
