Fire-Lighting Course in Gloucestershire

Fire has been at the heart of human survival for thousands of years. It provides warmth, light, clean water, cooked food and comfort. Learning to create fire without modern equipment is one of the most rewarding skills in bushcraft.

Spend a full day immersed in our 1,500-acre private woodland, discovering how fire can be created using natural materials, traditional techniques and primitive methods.

Whether you're new to bushcraft or looking to master one of its most satisfying skills, this course will build your confidence from the very first spark.

Throughout the Day You'll Learn

  • Modern fire lighting techniques

  • Fire steels and ferro rods

  • Traditional flint and steel

  • Natural tinders and tinder preparation

  • Fire lays and fuel selection

  • Fire safety

  • Processing wood by hand

  • Hand drill fire lighting

  • Bow drill fire lighting

  • Troubleshooting and improving your technique

By the end of the day you'll understand not only how to make fire, but why each method works.

Learn in the Woodland

One of the greatest advantages of our woodland is that the classroom is all around you.

You'll walk through the woods identifying natural tinder, selecting suitable timbers and understanding how weather, moisture and wood species affect fire making.

You'll even create your own bow drill set using natural materials before learning how to produce your very first ember.

Why Choose Learn Bushcraft?

Our courses take place within 1,500 acres of private woodland, giving you the opportunity to practise in a genuine outdoor environment rather than on a campsite or demonstration area.

With small group sizes and experienced instructors, you'll receive plenty of individual coaching throughout the day, giving you the best chance of success.

This is a relaxed, hands-on course where everyone learns at their own pace.
